Farnworth

General: Farnworth is a large town situated approximately 2 miles South East of Bolton with a population of approximately 25,000. The town lies on the River Irwell and the River Croal and has a history in coal mining, iron and cotton.

Location: Farnworth is situated north of junctions 3 & 4 of the M61 allowing for excellent motorway links onto the M60 and for easy access into Manchester. The town is also served by major roads in particular A666, A575 & the A6053. Farnworth has its own railway station with Northern Rail providing services through to Manchester and Preston. The town also has excellent bus links including;

  • No 68 First Manchester – between Bolton and the Trafford Centre
  • No 513 Maytree – Bolton
  • No 8 First Manchester – between Bolton and Manchester

Healthcare: Farnworth has excellent medical facilities with the Royal Bolton Hospital based in its boundaries. There are also various doctors/surgeries available including;

The town is also served by high schools/colleges including Harper Green School, St Joseph’s Business and Enterprise College and St James’ CE School and Sports College.

Leisure: Farnworth offers a wide range of leisure activities. The town is home to Farnworth Cricket club and Farnworth FC youth team. The town centre also holds the very popular King St Market as well as a theatre and library. Farnworth Leisure Centre has facilities including a swimming pool, fitness suite and various fitness classes. There is also the popular Farnworth Park which is an attraction for all ages.
