Hindley

General: Hindley is a commuting town, 3 miles east of Wigan with most residents working in Wigan or commuting to Manchester & Liverpool. The town has a large population of around 20,000+ residents and has a deep history in coal mining and the cotton industry.

Location: Hindley offers a great commuting position to various local cities. The A58 (Prescot - Bolton) and the A577 (Ormskirk to Boothstown) roads run through the town. Hindley rail station is served by Northern Rail on the Wigan - Manchester line. The town has excellent bus services including:

  • No 559 Maytree – Bolton
  • No 320/620 Arriva – between St Helens & Wigan

Education: The town has a good array of primary and high schools including Castle Hill St Philips Primary, Hindley Junior and Infants, Hindley All Saints CE Primary, St Peter’s CE Primary and Hindley High School.

Local facilities: Hindley has a good range of facilities including hairdressers, garages, pubs and restaurants. The town is home to Asda on Ladies Lane and also Iceland on Templeton Road. In neighbouring Ince there is also Morrisons situated on Makerfield Way.

Leisure: Hindley has great leisure facilities and possesses various thriving youth groups. The Sports Pavilion is located on Wigan Road and there is also Ashton Gymnastics Club. There are various amateur football, rugby and cricket clubs in this popular town for sports. Hindley Sports Centre is located on Mornington Road and includes facilities such as a swimming pool, sports courts and fitness suite. Hindley also offers the popular Borsdane Wood which is a local nature reserve and a great walking location.
