General: Adlington is a small town near the West Pennine Moors situated between Chorley and Bolton. With a past in the cotton and textile industry, the town is mainly a residential and commuting town for Manchester, Bolton, Wigan and Chorley with a population of around 5,000.

Location: Located six miles northwest of Bolton, the A6 main road runs through Adlington from Manchester to Chorley & Preston. The M61 also passes through the town to the east, making it a viable commuting option. Adlington boasts from its own railway station which is on the Manchester to Preston lines; connecting Adlington to Manchester Victoria, Salford, Bolton, Horwich, Chorley, Buckshaw Village, Blackrod, Preston & Blackpool. There is also an extensive bus service in Adlington including:

  • No 3/3A Stagecoach – between Chorley & Blackrod
  • No 125 Stagecoach – between Preston & Clayton Brook

There are numerous dentists, pharmacies in Adlington itself and an optician in the neighbouring Anderton area.

There is also an abundant choice of schools in neighbouring areas.

Local facilities: Adlington boasts a wide range of local facilities to cater for all. There is plenty of shops, a post office, library, numerous pubs and a community centre. The Leeds to Liverpool canal runs directly through Adlington which hosts an angling club and pleasure boats available to hire. Adlington is home to its own football and rubgy club, a cricket ground and a bowling field.

Leisure: The town boasts two large recreational areas and is home to various amateur cricket, rugby and football clubs. Leisure facilities are also available in nearby Chorley.
