Aspull

General: Aspull is a small village in the borough of Wigan with a small population of around 5,000 residents. This peaceful village is surrounded by greenbelt and agricultural land with lovely views of the West Pennine Moors. Aspull has a strong history in coal mining and the textiles industry.

Location: The village is located on the crossroads of the Blackrod – Wigan Road and the A6 Standish road. The Leeds - Liverpool canal passes through the village. The nearest serving railway is Hindley rail station which offers excellent links into Wigan and Manchester. The village is well served by a number of bus routes including;

  • No 715 Arriva – between Bolton, Westhoughton and Wigan
  • No 575/576 Maytree – between Wigan & Bolton
  • No 559 Maytree - Bolton

Healthcare: Aspull surgery on Haigh Road - 01942 831263- is the nearest health centre and there are various other medical centres in the surrounding towns.

Education: Aspull is served by a range of schools including Aspull Church Primary, Our Ladys RC Primary and St David Haigh & Aspull CE Primary School. The nearest high schools can be found at Hindley High School and Shevington High School.

Local facilities: There are limited facilities within Aspull itself, the nearest supermarkets can be found in the surrounding towns – Morrisons, Makerfield Way, Ince and Asda on Ladies Lane, Hindley.

Leisure: Aspull is home to Aspull RFC and small football clubs. The nearest gymasiums and leisure centres can be found at Hindley and Westhoughton. Haigh Country Park is located nearby with stunning parkland and woodland views offering a great day out for all the family.
