Chorley

General: Chorley town has a special mix of rural and urban areas with a population of approximately 31,000+. The history of the town is found in the cotton industry and coal mining. Chorley is commonly referred to as Lancashire’s Market Town and its historic outdoor market has been running for over 200 years. It is the home of the famous Chorley Cake.

Location: Chorley is located at the foot of the West Pennine Moors with the River Yarrow running through the town. Chorley is served by Junctions 6 & 8 of M61 and the M6 serves the west of the town at Junction 27, making it a great choice for commuters. Chorley is bisected by the A6 which runs through the town centre. There is an excellent bus service based at Chorley Interchange, which allows easy access to Bolton, Blackburn, Preston, Wigan and Manchester. Services include:

  • No 125 Stagecoach to Bolton
  • No 124 Stagecoach to Blackburn
  • No 113 Stagecoach to Preston & Wigan
  • No 119 Fishwick Buses to Leyland
  • No 115 Fishwick Buses to Preston
  • No 362 Arriva to Wigan
  • There is a National Express daily service to London.

Chorley also boasts is own railway station with First Trans Pennine North West service which provides access to Manchester Airport and Windermere. Northern Rail provides services to Manchester, Preston & Bolton.

Healthcare: There are a wide range of healthcare facilities in Chorley, including Chorley and South Ribble District General Hospital based on Euxton Lane. Doctors’ surgeries are abundant and include:

Gillibrand Primary School, All Saints CofE Primary School, Holy Cross Catholic High School, Albany Academy, Bishop Rawstorne CE High School, Parklands High School, Southlands High School, St Michaels CE High School.

There is also a popular college based nearby in Leyland; Runshaw College. Lancashire College based in Chorley specialises in adult learning, in particular language courses.

Local facilities: Chorley offers all facilities you would need from a local town. It has a wide choice of shops include the Market Walk Development shopping centre & Chorley Market. There is an outdoor market which takes place every Tuesday and three supermarkets (ASDA on Water Street, Morrison’s on Brooke Street & Tesco’s on Foxhole Road). Botany Bay nearby offers a unique shopping experience for days out.

Other facilities include restaurants, pubs, bars, convenience shops, hairdressers, garages etc.

Leisure: For sport fans Chorley FC, Chorley RUFC and the various cricket clubs will all make you welcome. Chorley is home to Chorley Fitness which was voted UK Fitness Centre of the Year 2007. Furthermore, there is a council owned leisure centre called All Seasons which has swimming facilities, gym, squash courts, football facilities and exercise classes. There are days out on offer at the local Astley Hall & Bank Hall.

The Leeds to Liverpool canal runs through Chorley providing several marinas for boating facilities.

Coppull

Coppull

General: Coppull is small rural village with a population of approximately 8,000 residents, with the main residential areas consisting of Preston Road, Spendmore Lane and Chapel Lane. Farming is an important aspect of the economy in Coppull, following a history of weaving, coal mining, mills and brick making.

Location: Coppull is ideal for commuting to Chorley and Wigan as it has close motorway links to Junction 27 of the M6 and Junction 8 of the M61. It is also served by major roads just as the A49 and B5251 (Wigan to Preston road). The nearest railway station is Adlington (2 miles) and Chorley (3 miles). Coppull has an excellent bus network including:

  • No 362 Arriva – between Wigan & Chorley Interchange
  • No 1, 2 and 2a Stagecoach to Chorley

There are a good range of secondary schools towards Chorley.

Local facilities: There are more than adequate facilities in Coppull itself and Chorley also serves as the closest major town. Some of the facilities include a Co-op supermarket on Spendmore Lane, a library, Royal Bank of Scotland, hairdressers, garages, pubs, restaurants and shops.
