Horwich

General: Horwich is a vibrant town situated in the stunning West Pennine Moors, 5 miles North West of Bolton. Only five square miles in size, the atmospheric town is home to nearly 20,000 residents. With Middlebrook on the doorstep of Horwich; it is home to Bolton Wanderers Football Club and the impressive Reebok Stadium.

Location: Two minutes’ drive from Junction 6 of the M61, served by Horwich Parkway Railway Station linking Horwich to Preston, Blackpool, Bolton and Manchester and connected by an extensive bus service; making Horwich an ideal location for commuters. Bus services include:

  • No 575 Arriva – between Horwich & Bolton, with further services extending onto Wigan
  • No 516 & 517 South Lancs Travel – between Middlebrook, Westhoughton, Atherton & Leigh
  • No 715 Maytree – between Blackrod & Bolton via Horwich.

Local facilities: Horwich boasts an abundance of shops, restaurants, supermarkets, pubs, banks, post office and bars which are split between Horwich town centre and Middlebrook Retail Park. Tesco and Asda are based on the outskirts, whilst Co-op, Aldi and Iceland are in Horwich town centre. Horwich also has a weekly outdoor market at St John Street every Friday.

Leisure: The highly impressive Bolton Arena, Middlebrook is home to a state of the art gym, over 40 exercise classes, spa, sauna, steam room, 8 indoor tennis courts as one of the country’s leading tennis academies, two badminton courts, numerous football pitches and a 400 metre running track.

In addition, Horwich has a golf course and leisure centre with swimming pool, gym, badminton and squash facilities. There are two dance schools available in Horwich. Behind the Public Hall there is a public bowling green and cricket is also played at the RMI ground. Wallsuches Conservation Area off Chorley Old Road is a stunning area for fishing and full facilities are available here. Middlebrook Retail Park also hosts a large cinema and ten pin bowling centre.There are numerous sport clubs and societies available to join in Horwich for the sport of your choice.
